T1 Energy’s G1 Dallas facility is crushing it. The massive 5GW solar plant in Wilmer, Texas exceeded production goals by a whopping 48% in early 2025, pumping out over 220MW of modules in just two months. Formerly Freyr Battery, T1 pivoted hard to solar and it’s paying off. Texas added 11.6GW last year, outpacing even California. The success story doesn’t end with this plant, though.
The Lone Star State just got a whole lot brighter. T1 Energy, the company formerly known as Freyr Battery until its 2025 rebrand, is making waves with its massive G1 Dallas facility in Wilmer, Texas. And they’re not just meeting production goals – they’re crushing them by a whopping 48% in early 2025. That’s right, over 220 MW of solar modules rolled off production lines in just January and February. Not too shabby.
Texas solar manufacturing is heating up as T1 Energy smashes production targets at their massive Wilmer facility.
The 1.35 million square foot facility wasn’t even theirs until recently. T1 snatched it from Trina Solar for a cool $621 million in 2024, transforming it into a 5 GW solar module manufacturing powerhouse. It’s now home to over 1,000 employees who are busy churning out both PERC and TOPCon modules across four utility-scale production lines. This rapid expansion aligns perfectly with projections that solar PV capacity will dominate global renewable installations by 2027. At this rate, they’ll hit their 3.4 GW target for 2025 with ease.
But wait, there’s more! Because apparently one massive solar facility isn’t enough, T1 is already planning their next Texas-sized move. They’ve secured a 100-acre site in Milam County for their G2 Austin project – another 5 GW facility that’ll focus on solar cell manufacturing. This expansion could potentially create 1,800 advanced manufacturing jobs contingent upon state and local incentives. Price tag? A mere $850 million. Construction kicks off mid-2025, with production slated for late 2026. Talk about ambition.
Texas, meanwhile, is absolutely dominating the solar scene. The state added a staggering 11.6 GW of solar PV in 2024 alone – more than California and Florida combined. Several other companies are joining the Texas manufacturing rush, with Canadian Solar planning to reach 5GW of annual capacity by the end of 2024. Guess everything really is bigger in Texas.
T1 Energy’s push represents their broader strategy to become America’s premier integrated solar and battery storage provider. Their first commercial sales from G1 Dallas hit in Q4 2024, netting $2.9 million in revenue and $1.2 million in gross profit. Not bad for a company that was focused on batteries until about five minutes ago.
The solar boom in Texas shows no signs of slowing down.
