ultra fast ev charging stations

Mercedes-Benz is releasing a charging beast across America. The luxury automaker isn’t messing around with their latest charging initiative, announcing plans to roll out 500 ultra-fast charging stalls using 400kW chargers at retail sites nationwide. And get this – they’re for everyone. Not just fancy Mercedes drivers. Any EV can pull up and juice up, starting in 2026. Hey, better late than never, right?

These aren’t your grandma’s chargers. Each location will feature up to ten stalls equipped with both CCS-1 and NACS connectors, making them compatible with practically every EV on the road. The German automaker is partnering with Federal Realty Investment Trust to make this retail center deployment happen. They’re not playing small ball here.

The company already operates over 400 charging stalls across 14 states, with another 2,000 in active development. They’ve committed a cool $1 billion to install 2,500 stalls by 2027. That’s serious cash. Mercedes is taking the portfolio-wide approach rather than plodding along site-by-site. Smart move. Their strategic plans aim to cover half of U.S. states with high-power stations by 2026.

They’re even setting up at Starbucks locations. Charge your car, charge yourself with caffeine. Efficiency at its finest. The company is also participating in Ionity joint venture with seven other major automakers to further expand the fast-charging network across the United States.

Tech specs? The chargers use Alpitronic HYC400 models capable of 400kW output. That’s fast. Like, really fast. They’ve thought about practical stuff too – cable length, ergonomics, making sure every vehicle type can use them easily. The whole network runs on 100% renewable energy, because of course it does. This initiative supports the green revolution by promoting sustainable transportation and reducing dependency on fossil fuels.

Starting February 2025, Mercedes EVs will also gain access to 20,000+ Tesla Superchargers across the US and Canada. They’ll use a NACS-to-CCS1 adapter until they make the full switch to NACS.

Integration with ChargePoint and other partners means this network isn’t an island. It’s part of a bigger strategy to cover urban, suburban, and highway locations. Mercedes is playing the long game. And they’re playing to win.
