Chinese battery manufacturers are crushing their global competitors, seizing a staggering 70% of the worldwide power-battery market by late 2025. It’s not even close. CATL alone commands nearly 37% global share, while BYD has rocketed to 18% with almost 125 GWh installed—up a whopping 50% year-over-year. The West is getting absolutely schooled.
Just look at the numbers. China’s total battery output for EVs and hybrids hit 691.3 GWh in the first eight months of 2025. That’s up almost 35% from the previous year. CATL pumped out 254.5 GWh by itself. Ridiculous growth.
China’s battery juggernaut keeps accelerating, with 691.3 GWh pumped out in just eight months—a staggering 35% year-over-year surge.
Meanwhile, Korean manufacturers are watching their relevance fade in real time. Their combined market share plummeted to just 16.8%, down nearly 4 percentage points. LG Energy Solution—once considered a serious player—holds a measly 9.7%. Panasonic? A paltry 3.7%. Samsung SDI actually shrank by 9.1%. Ouch.
The Chinese advantage? Vertically integrated supply chains and dirt-cheap production costs. Western companies simply can’t compete on price. Six Chinese firms now rank among the global top 10 power-battery suppliers, controlling nearly 70% of installed capacity.
Their dominance has actually become a domestic concern. Chinese regulators recently summoned 16 leading battery and storage firms to address overcapacity issues. The government is specifically strengthening macro-level coordination to minimize risks from overexpansion in the industry. Too much success can apparently be problematic. Industry analysts predict global battery production will exceed 1,000 GWh for the first time in 2025.
System integrators like Trina Solar Energy Storage and HyperStrong are now deploying utility-scale storage solutions globally, using domestically produced batteries. The entire battery ecosystem is Chinese-dominated.
Even Beijing seems worried about how thoroughly its battery giants are crushing it. The government ordered industry leaders to “restore market order” amid aggressive price wars.
But the global battery race? That’s already over.
Western battery hopefuls entered the game thinking they could compete. Turns out they brought a knife to a gunfight. Game, set, match to China.
